Fiji Industries Ltd (FIL) has recently set up a new website.  Taking cues from clients and our own research, we have sought to provide easy navigation with simple to understand information about our core product, cement.   0our ambition was to build a bigger and better website as we help to construct a bigger and better Fiji and South Pacific.   We wish to thank the invaluable services of Webmedia Fiji in helping us conceptualize, design and add other valuable inputs. 
Another feature is our “exciting” new newsletter.  Can cement news ever really be exciting?  …yeah, we don’t think so either but we will try not to bore you and if we do our job, you might even look forward to talking cement sometime at a party.

An upgraded laboratory excels inassessment

Our laboratory passed with flying coloursrecently after going through a rigorous assessment by an international technical audit company.  The FIL laboratory went through a special technical audit conducted by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) in February, 2007. It also comprised of Special Mechanical Signatory Assessments for two laboratory analysts.



The assessment went extremely well and this was complemented by Mechanical Signatory achievements by two laboratory analysts. The Fiji Industries Laboratory is the technical hub of Fiji Industries Ltd and is committed to providing valuable services to its customers.  Our proven capability to research and produce reliable results is an endorsement of our ability to meet global benchmarks.

Pre-cast cement makes in roads

Humes Industries has started pre-cast cement in different scales since establishment in 1959 but this cost and time saving technique has not made any impact until recently when some manufacturing improvements were implemented. Humes, like Fiji Industries Limited, comes under the umbrella of Basic Industries are both subsidiaries of Fijian Holdings. Since 2002, Humes has replaced traditional methods and has made significant inroads into some of the nation’s biggest construction sites..

Humes Industries General Manager Faiz Al-Sammak says “We have introduced pre-cast cement widely in Fiji as a substitute to the traditional method of construction. The pre-cast system replaces the traditional beam and column structure system. We have completed high profile construction projects including the Ra Marama House, The Viti Tower, The Capital Hill Apartments, The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa; and many others.” He says the pre-cast cement is taking such a hold that many architects and engineers are designing new building with the new system in mind. “Not only is the pre-cast cement popular, it is cheaper, faster, requires no plastering and makes less mess on site,” he says.
